ABOUT THE PRACTICE

Parsons Psychology is a private psychology practice located in inner-eastern Melbourne. Parsons Psychology is owned by Dr. Rachel Parsons, who is the principal practitioner.

Dr. Rachel Parsons completed her tertiary studies at Monash University and then continued her post-graduate training at Deakin University, where she completed a Doctorate of Forensic Psychology. As part of this Doctorate, Rachel conducted leading clinical research that investigated the memory and recall abilities of children, including children with an intellectual disability.

Rachel has worked in a range of mental health services and within the criminal justice system, with both children and adults, and has extensive experience in assessment and treatment services.

Rachel worked within the not-for-profit sector for seven years, working with children, young people and their families who have experienced complex trauma, including family violence and sexual abuse. This experience included working with children and adolescents in out-of-home care (including foster care), and those involved in the criminal justice and child protection systems.

Other areas of expertise include working with children presenting with developmental and behavioural disorders, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and attachment difficulties. Rachel has worked for many years with both child and adult victims of crime.

Rachel has also worked as an Intermediary for the Victorian court system, conducting communication needs assessments for vulnerable witnesses providing evidence in criminal court.

More broadly, Rachel has provided national professional development training to a range of mental health services and has conducted clinical research with children and adolescents.

Rachel has been working in private practice now for 10 years supporting clients and their families with complex emotional and behavioural challenges. Rachel supports clients with an empathic and sensitive approach to understand their experiences and work to achieve personal growth and towards their personal goals.
