Medicare Rebates
There are a number of different Medicare initiatives to enable clients to obtain a Medicare rebate for sessions with a psychologist. You should speak to your medical provider to determine options and eligibility.
Most commonly utilised are Medicare rebates for the costs of the services under the Medicare Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative. This initiative offers individuals financial assistance to access psychological services for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. You should discuss the Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative with your general practitioner, psychiatrist or paediatrician to determine eligibility. A Mental Health Care Plan will need to be completed by your medical practitioner prior to the first appointment to be able to claim the Medicare rebate.
Medicare rebates can be claimed at the office after each consultation, at the time of payment.
If you would like to understand more about the Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative and services provided, please contact Parsons Psychology or APS.
Private Health Rebates
Some private health insurers also provide rebates for services provided by registered psychologists. If you have private health cover, please contact your service provider for further information.
